Freni e Frizoni, otherwise known as “Brakes and Clutch” in Italian, is a fitting name for this trendy bar which is located in a former auto body shop in Rome’s vibrant Trastevere district. The front room of Freni e Frizoni borrows heavily from garage culture: the floor is the original pavement of the body shop, and the couches are upholstered with slick black tire treads. The well-dressed locals generally drift between the front and the back patios after ordering their drinks, mingling with friends and listening to the eclectic sounds of live musicians - the bartenders also encourage locals to bring their own CDs to play in between. Drinks here are reasonably priced, as is the food: breakfast, lunch, and brunch are offered on weekends, while appetizers – apertivio in Italian – are always available. Try one of their famous mojitos as you listen to local guitarists strum the night away on the outdoor patios.
