Sip cocktails in this old Paris favourite with its sophisticated Shanghai-in-the-30s kind of vibe. On a quiet road behind the bustle of Paris' Bastille district, Le China (formerly known as China Club) stands out as a refined establishment in an area overrun with not-so-classy bars. Going through the doors here is like stepping into another era and another country. The spacious, high-ceilinged bar is decorated with a black and white chequerboard floor, leather chesterfield sofas, red walls and soft lighting, creating a romantic, colonial atmosphere. The cocktail list features classics such as Bellinis, Cosmopolitans and Singapore Slings as well as original in-house creations from the China barmen such as the Ginger inspiration (white rum, ginger, pineapple juice and champagne). But Le China isn’t just a bar: Franco-Asian fusion food is served in the upstairs restaurant and live music concerts take place in the basement.
