As the central meeting place in the heart of the medina, the Jemaa El Fna is a chaotic, noisy and seriously overwhelming place where thousands of locals and tourists converge every day. You’ll discover an electrifying scene of exotic snake charmers arousing colourful snakes with piped music, monkey trainers performing tricks in front of open-mouthed tourists, endlessly wrinkled elderly woman telling the fortunes of their clients, and fresh orange juice squeezers calling out from their bright orange stalls. At night time, the Jemaa El Fna turns into an action-packed night market. Dozens of temporary open air kitchens are set up each night with makeshift tables and chairs, serving a variety of inexpensive Moroccan cuisine specialties such as charcoal grilled meats, soups and spicy sausages. Choose the most popular stalls where you can see the food being cooked in front of you - ask for the meal to be served on a disposable paper plate rather than the stall’s own crockery.
