The Modern Pantry is a fantastic all-day dining cafe helmed by Anna Hansen, a chef from New Zealand who trained under Peter Gordon (of The Providors and Tapa Room). Offering fantastic Australian/New Zealand-inspired cuisine in London’s Clerkenwell district, we particularly recommend it for its sumptuous breakfast menu. Savour their delicious porridge with poached fruit; eggs cooked in your preferred style with grilled chorizo, caramelised plantain fritters and slow roasted tomatoes. Don’t miss their signature omelette of sugar-cured prawns, spring onions and green chill, or the sophisticated yellowfin tuna sashimi with truffled mustard seed, yuzu and soy dressing for lunch. Many of the dishes feature innovative international twists, such as spinach, shiitake and plantain green curry with roasted yams and spiced aubergine relish. While each of the dishes may seem an odd combination to have with the following course, it’s a risk every diner takes but is usually one that pays off.
