Arbutus

  • Modern British

When Arbutus opened its doors in May 2006, a new foodie destination restaurant arrived in Soho. With rave reviews and a multitude of awards for its high quality, great value cuisine, the Michelin starred Arbutus is the brainchild of chef Anthony Demetre (of Putney Bridge Restaurant acclaim) and Will Smith. While the modern interiors are both comfortable and stylish, the emphasis here is upon the daily-changing menu of innovative interpretations of European bistro classics. The simple yet technically perfect cooking shines from start to finish, where smash-hits such as the squid and mackeral burger with razor clams and sea purslane will leave you licking your lips for more. Move on to signature mains such as the Icelandic cod with caramelised endive and blood orange, and the rich and flavorsome bouillabaisse simply brimming with seafood. The desserts are divine, along with the warm, professional service and the impressive international wine list. While Arbutus is their trendy Soho venture, the team's other equally good restaurant in Mayfair, Wild Honey, targets a slightly more corporate crowd. Bookings advised.
