Polpo, da Polpo & Polpette
Polpo, Polpette & da Polpo are the three trendy and intimate Venetian-styled tapas bars (‘bacaro’ in Italian) by restauranteur Russell Norman in the heart of central London's Soho district. Our favourite, Polpo, is set within the ground floor of an early 18th century building (which was once the home of the famous Venetian painter, Canaletto), with interiors that have that cool-yet-casual modern vibe with exposed original brickwork, eclectic black and white Victorian butcher tiles and cosy red leather banquet seating. Completely packed every night, Polpo offers a high-quality, tasty and affordable sharing menu of cicheti such as perfectly crisp arancini and crocchettas, tasting plates of lightly fried fritto misto, fine Italian cured meats, and the delicious signature polpette meatballs. The top-notch wine list favours Italian wines, mostly sourced from the northern regions. Expect long queues, loud noise levels and a really fun atmosphere. The Polpo team have also recently opened their fourth highly successful venture, Spuntino, which is a cool, dimly-lit speakeasy-style American diner with delicious sharing plates such as ‘Mac n’ Cheese’ macaroni and mini ‘Sliders’ (i.e. bite-sized hamburgers).
